The last day of a trip is often left half-finished: you have checked out of your accommodation, but there are still several hours to go before your flight or train. Instead of waiting at the airport, you can use that time to explore Alicante a little more. This is our suggestion for enjoying the city until the very last moment.
Before you start: leave your suitcases behind
Exploring the old town or climbing the castle with a suitcase is not a good idea. The most practical thing is to leave your luggage at a central luggage storage and pick it up before heading to the airport.
With BagsKeeper, you can do this at verified local businesses in the center of Alicante, with a flat daily rate and no time limit.

Morning: castle and old town
Santa Bárbara Castle. Situated high on Mount Benacantil, it offers some of the best views of the city, the port, and the coast. You can take an elevator up from the Postiguet beach area or walk up a path that goes through the old town.
Santa Cruz neighborhood. After coming down from the castle, it is worth exploring its narrow streets, with white houses, colorful flower pots, and staircases that retain the charm of traditional Alicante.
San Nicolás Co-Cathedral and Santa María Basilica. Two of the city's most emblematic churches, just a few minutes' walk from each other.

Noon: Central Market
The Central Market is an ideal place to discover local products and eat something at the surrounding bars. If you have left your suitcases at Lyere, it is just a stone's throw away.
Afternoon: promenade and beach
Explanada de España. Its famous wavy mosaic floor and palm trees make it Alicante's most famous promenade. It is perfect for taking a leisurely stroll or having a drink on a terrace.
Port and marina. Next to the Explanada is the marina, with restaurants and areas to walk by the sea.
Postiguet Beach. If the weather is nice, there is nothing better than one last swim before heading home.
If you have more time
- MARQ, Alicante Archaeological Museum: an excellent option if it is hot or you prefer a cultural plan.
- Tabarca Island: if you have almost the whole day, boats leave from the port to this small island. Check the schedules in advance.
Tips for the last day
- Plan your timing carefully: allow at least two hours to pick up your luggage and get to the airport.
- Check the closing time of the place where you leave your suitcases.
- If your flight leaves late, choose a location with extended hours, such as OCLT, which is open until the early hours of the morning, or STOP&GO, near the airport.
