San Juan Beach in Alicante: how to get there, what to do, and where to leave your luggage

Playa de San Juan de Alicante: cómo llegar, qué hacer y dónde dejar las maletas

San Juan Beach is Alicante's great urban beach: about 6 kilometers of golden sand between Cabo de la Huerta and El Campello, featuring calm waters and a long promenade. It is the perfect plan for your last day in the city, provided you don't have to carry your suitcase around. We'll tell you how to get there, what to do, and where to leave your luggage.

Golden sand beach on the Alicante coast

Why it's worth it

  • Blue Flag for almost four decades: it is one of the few beaches in Spain that has maintained it without interruption.
  • Golden sand and high-quality water: ideal for swimming and spending the day.
  • Complete services: restrooms, showers, lifeguards, and play areas for children.
  • Sports and leisure: beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, and a promenade with restaurants and beach bars.

How to get there from the center

The most convenient way is the TRAM. Line 4 departs from Luceros and ends at Plaza de La Coruña, right in the heart of San Juan Beach. Line 3, heading toward El Campello, also has stops near the beach, such as Costa Blanca and Carrabiners. In season, line 5 connects the beach with Porta del Mar.

Check the schedules on the TRAM d'Alacant website before you go, as they change according to the season.

Where do I leave my suitcases?

Going to the beach with a suitcase is not a good idea: the sand, the crowded TRAM, and no one to watch it while you swim. You have two options:

  • In the center, before taking the TRAM: leave your luggage at Lyere, open every day, and pick it up on your way back. It is the most practical option if you are heading to the station or the airport afterward.
  • In the San Juan Beach area: Realce Beauty (Av. Goleta, 21) is about a 20-minute walk from the beach and is open from Monday to Saturday.

Tips for your beach day

  • Get up early in summer: there is more space and less heat early in the morning.
  • Bring only the essentials: a towel, sunscreen, water, and little else. The rest is better left at the luggage storage.
  • Plan your return: if you have a flight or train, allow time for the TRAM and for picking up your luggage before the shop closes.
  • Finish on the promenade: the promenade has terraces for eating or watching the sunset.
